Well its been a while - and theres bneen some crazy gigs some BIG
, but the intimate full on vibe can never be replaced. For those
of you that happened to be at the Croissant Neuf stage on the Sat
night of Glastonbury 99 will know what I mean - rammed, more rammed
and sweaty and happy - we loved it and may there be many more, butwe
must admit playing the Jazz Stage was fantastic, a beautiful morning
and a massive crowd to wake up to. Thanks to everyone who got out
of bed to see us, and to those who probably hadn't been to bed at
all.The ULU gig was also Mental later - check this site for some
footage , (not to mention Jazz stage 99 recodings - baby ! please
!! )
Then the Avalon stage gig
was MORE mental in Summer 2000,see photos
and every one had the best time. It was a real defining moment for
us. theres some nice reviews at amazons
site ( where you can also buy our albums) hey thanks. Oh and
sorry we couldnt continue at tha Mass gig last June - if ever there
was a time for an encore - by jove that was it - thats promotors
for ya
Since the we played in Turkey
twice and Israel, who all freaked out to us and made us very welcome
indeed - we all had tour tummy though and some got the "Jerusalem
fever" when trying to visit the place ( apparently quite common)
PS. The beach
on the Multimedia page is in Tel Aviv - Maff could hardly walk -
but he could film , dedication ,baby !
Turkeys gigs were crazy -
at a huge fest outside Instanbul called H2000 - lots of Mud - playing
with Apollo440, Lamb , Chumbawumba etc, it was very nice - with
some lovely Turkish hospitality - Cheers guys.
The album 'Travelator' has now finally been released across most
of Europe. It has taken a long time but the music has worked. Its
not been easy without any hype and support from certain sections
of the media, but word of mouth has been fantastic and has meant
more and more people getting into it.
Remember the ill fated Eclipse festival of 99 ? -. (Stupid over
hype by the media (Cornwall will run out of food and water etc)
meant a complete failure all round, instead of an amazing event.
Well at least we saw the eclipse down in Perranporth - which made
the whole thing worth it. Some of the few lucky b******* that had
the gap in the clouds! Cornwall was great and spent the rest of
the week at the old festival site for the Elephant Fair camping
out and eating pasties - very nice)
Was anyone that has been mailed at V99? For us that was the most
together of the festivals, a little too efficient but makes life
easier for us. The gig in Stafford was a close shave as the bass
guitars had been left in London (yep that clever) so there was a
lot of frantic phone calls and mad driving and stress and people
finally emerging back stage 10 minutes before going on. Behind the
scenes nonsense - but in the best sense of show business. We were
amazed that it came together. By the time we ended up in Turkey
we were a little more sussed - but not much
Hey
You may have noticed the
theme to "At Home with the Braithwaites" the ITV show
- yes that was us ,on both series and we may release it depending
on certain schedules. We thought at the time oh no - a bit Grange
Hill like , but by now it sounds all funky and daft ( and so do
the longer remixes! )
DAVES HAD A BABY yes its true which is why we havent played for ages
apart from avalon stage at glastonbury ,which was amazing
see photos . Ned and Maff meanwhile did a track and spent ages
on it (my god, did they!) which is out on "Backroom Beats"
compilation album released by Twisted
Records at the end of April 2001 , under the name
STUFF or STUPH
depending on the Phatness of the writer . Anyway its called Venice
Beach (Remix) and are appearing on the feature film "The Inbetweeners"
- out on Universal - and currently being shown nationally at Warner
Cinemas
Also Maffs films will be
appearing on DURT - a channel 4 late night show on May 3rd at 1.55am
(ok - technically May 4th ) with a RUDE interview aswell - The Adventures
of the Orange and Beatutiful Mud People as well as at the Ritzy
Cinema, Brixton, London seen on April 25th 2001
One not quite last thing:
Its a TV thing - The Egg have made a documentary!
"Invited to participate in the new Channel 4 series 'Mission Divine',
The Egg went to the depths of Scotland. It is an hour long programme
part video diary, part documentary, part travel feature it blurs
the line of normal documentary film making with the ultimate conceit
of God making an appearance along the way. The Egg, using buddhism
as their key way of exploring the 'Divine', meet many different
groups and characters through the 7 day journey. From the Buddhist
pagoda in London, to the Osho cult in Edinburgh, completing a retreat
nr. Stirling, chanting on Mountains @ Aviemore and ending in sea
caves on the isolated coast of the Inner Hebrides, NW Scotland.
But did they find the divine......."
Hey, it was Ace, maybe theyll
repeat it
It was a real eye opener making it - and we met some fantastic people
on the way.
- WELL ANYWAY Maff + Ned
will be playing at the Solipse
festival in ZAMBIA on June 2001- alas no Glasters but this should
be cool ( or rather - hot ) and its on at the same time (june 16th
to 24th ) - eclipse of the sun on the 21st! how crazy is trhat ?
back to first page
Cheers for now
